Dashboards to support Enterprise Information Portals
The bigger a company we have to
administer is, the more important become all the questions connected
anyhow with data flow. For efficient management it is crucial to have
all data stored at one place, so that the manager might immediately
get an access to every data he needs. Thereupon, more and more companies
use so called EIPs, what means: Enterprise Information Portal.
What exactly the EIP is? In a word,
it's an answer for all data integration needs. From technical point
of view, Enterprise Information Portal is a framework, which aim is
to gather crucial data about company. In fact, it means putting data
from all departments, information about employees, and operational processes
specifications together. This is probably the most efficient method
for facilitating - and accelerating as well - decision making.
Nonetheless,
EIP itself stores data solely and separate tool was required to operate
on it. That's the role of dashboards. What benefits do the end-users
get?
- Everything is
being stored at one place. There's no need therefore to open different
applications and access different localizations to get documents or
presentations. Moreover, thank to dashboard online discussion are enabled
without a need to involve external software. It results in easier access
to former part of the discussion, too.
- Thinking about
crucial data for each company, managers have to struggle with one important
question - how to keep data secret for people from the outside, and
- simultaneously - spread it across the company to let all its employees
get an access. Formerly, it was being done with a help of multiple passwords.
These days, managers realize that it's extremely inefficient solution
as using different password each time one wants to see information takes
too much time. With dashboard, every employee receives one password
which he uses only once when he needs to log in the system. It's also
predetermined which data he might see (levels of access), so that whole
process is automatic and - therefore - significantly faster.
- All todays
companies struggle with one problem how to increase their efficiency.
As whole their operating depends mostly on data flow, the thing is to
improve this process. Thereupon, more and more often managers try to
store information at one place or at least make all it accessible
from one place. Dashboards enable an unrestrained access to related
and unrelated sources of information. While everything is at the same
place, time needed for finding wanted information gets significantly
shorter.
- Business intelligence
is quite a wide question, companies have therefore to use plenty of
diverse applications. Opening each of them separately, basing on separate
information streams might be time-consuming. Thereupon todays dashboards
are prepared in a way enabling them to share resources with all (or
at least with most) business intelligence applications used
across the enterprise.
Enterprise
Information Portals, if supported with dashboards, efficiently accelerate
data flow and information spread, what results in a growth of companys
efficiency. The thing is to choose a proper solution, after all.
